Introduction to the Attributes of God- Part 1

Rev. Brian L. Kachelmeier

In this lecture, we begin to discuss the attributes of God, that is, who God is and what God does.  God is love.  Thus, He acts lovingly.  God is just.  Thus, He acts in justice.  What God is is what God does.  What God does is what God is.

  1. How refreshing to hear that God is loving, just, unchangeable all knowing ever present all powerful. We learn this first from the scriptures, creation, Noah’s flood, Moses leading the people across the red sea, The history of the nation of Israel, the words of the prophets given by the Holy Spirit, Jesus’s life and death, resurrection, ascension, and his telling us he will return. His Word and the writings of the church fathers such as Ambrose, Augustine, and John of Damascus confirm and teach what the Holy Scriptures say. Martin Luther, also, loves God’s words and teaches them and about them. The Holy Spirit speaks through a cloud of witnesses to testify of Jesus, who he is and what he does. Jesus proclaimed that if we see Jesus, we see the Father; they are one. What a relief to know that these truths can set us free. If we repent of our sins and confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He is our mediator and advocate, our redeemer, and he leads us in the paths of Righteousmess for His name’s sake. Christ intercedes for us with God the Father. The Spirit speaks words that cannot be uttered through our groanings. What a joy to know that Christ will never leave us!
